The buses in Japan are difficult for me because the writing is mostly in Kanji. I've ridden on it couple of times, but I still get nervous about which stop to take.
You have to take a ticket with a number on it as you get on the bus. The board you see on the top of the picture to the right has numbers on it indicating how much the fare is for each ticket #. You put your money into the machine you see next to the driver (which has multiple functions like making change out of 1000 yen bills, 500 yen coins, accepting ticket passes, and accepting your toll for the bus ride). ***<side note>I know my japanese is horrible, but it really sounds like the drivers are high when they're announcing destinations because their voices get extremely high pitched.
